Bus Lanes

There are many bus lanes in the hither-green area. Read the blue sign. If the bus lane is available to use, then you are required to use it, unless you can see a good reason not to.

Many bus lanes are operational 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, but many are only operational for the peak periods.

Drivers are required to keep left unless either overtaking or turning right. Therefore, if you can use the bus lane, then keep left.

You can use this bus lane at all timesexcept on Monday to Friday between the hours of 0700 and 1000, and 1600 and 1900.

You may not drive in this bus lane at any time, because no times are shown.

Look out for the “End of bus lane” sign. If you are not already in the bus lane, you may need to return to the left lane at this point.

Location

Hither Green driving test centre is located in Ennersdale Road. Driving from Hither Green Lane, it is on the right, just before Nightingale Grove, and the railway bridge.

Please not that from October 4th, 2010, the DSA no longer publish driving test routes. For more information about driving test requirements please contact your nearest local independent driver trainer.

Checklist

You should not attempt to take a driving test at Hither Green (or at any test centre) until you can independently and successfully deal with the following:

  • Busy right turns onto main roads
  • Right turns at traffic lights
  • Changing lane on busy dual carriageways
  • Right turns at busy roundabouts
  • Bus Lanes
  • Joining dual carriageways on slip lanes
  • Bay Parking
  • Reversing uphill around corners

Most test routes will feature some or all of this list. Be prepared!
