How to approach busy roundabouts
Cliftons Roundabout
In order to deal with busy roundabouts successfully,
- slow down, and approach at between 10 and 15 mph.
- Changedown, to gear 2, one lamp-post from the roundabout
- and then release the clutch.
The slow speed should enable you to look for the space before you have to stop (then you might not have to stop). Releasing the clutch on the approach will give you immediate speed if you are able to enter the roundabout.
However, if you do need to stop,
- Look through the roundabout for gaps and "Blockers"

A blocker is a vehicle opposite which, as it accesses the roundabout, blocks the traffic on your immediate right, and allows you enough time to get going. A good blocker would be a large truck, a bendy bus, or just one or two cars, going where you just came from .
Finally, remember to be starting to move slightly before the space arrives. Then when you go, GO! ...and promptly.
